AU baseball grabs mid-week win before weekend conference series

Augusta University’s baseball team edged the College of Saint Rose 7-4 on Tuesday, March 8, at Jaguar Field.
This was a much-needed win for the Jaguars as they had lost seven of their last eight games before Tuesday.
AU left-handed pitcher Eli McMullen duel against right-hander Cameron Flynn for the Golden Knights (4-7).
Skylor Murphy put AU on the board early with a two-RBI double, bringing in Walker Sinclair and Pat Galvin.
McMullen would pitch two innings for the Jaguars, finishing with two strikeouts and only giving up one hit.
The Jaguars (7-10, 0-3) brought in right-hander Alex Brown to replace McMullen in the top of the third inning.
Brown allowed four hits to the five batters he faced and two runs, tying the game 2-2. Nyle Grove came in for Brown to get out of the inning with a tie score.
Grove would pitch one and two tenths’ innings, finishing with no hits and two strikeouts before being replaced by Dominic Canale in the top of the fifth inning.
Canale got two quick easy outs before walking two batters, and the Jaguars brought in Cotton Phillips with the bases load. Phillips walked in the go-ahead run in James Ward for the Golden Knights, making the score 3-2.
AU’s Trevor Maddox hit a two-run single in the bottom of the fifth to give the Jaguars the lead right back for 4-3.
The Jaguars extended their lead to 7-3 in the bottom of the sixth after a two RBI double by Harrison Aulds and a sacrifice fly by Jordan Wilkie, scoring Murphy.
Brian Trepanier, Darrius Dunn and Britt Kelly came in for relief the last three innings to close the door on the Golden Knights. Trepanier finished with two strikeouts and gave up two hits in one inning pitched.
Dunn gave up one run off an RBI double by Jack McDonald in the eighth inning but would get out of the inning with limited damage. Kelly finished the game in the ninth for AU, giving up zero hits and runs.
Augusta has struggled away from home with a 2-9 record but moved to 5-1 at home with this win.
The Jaguars will look to capture there first conference win of the series of the season against Young Harris College (13-5, 3-0) at home this weekend. AU will play a doubleheader on Saturday, March 12. Game One will be at noon, followed by Game Two at 3 p.m. The final game of the series will be on Sunday, March 13, at noon.
