Augusta men's golf in 14th at Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate

Augusta University men’s golf team shot a combined 4-over-par score and tied for 14th at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at Blackthorn Club at the Ridges on Sunday, Oct. 10, in Jonesborough, Tenn.

This week’s 18-hole, par-72 tournament is being played on the championship tees at 7,147 yards. 

The AU men’s golf team brought six players to the tournament.

AU freshman Dawson Booth had the best first round of the team as he shot an even par-72 with four birdies. Booth found himself tied for 38th at the end of the day.

AU freshman Gareth Steyn had himself a solid round with a 1-over-par 73 that was good enough to end the day tied for 53rd place. Steyn had two birdies, both on par-5s.

AU junior Alex van Wyk also finished the first round tied for 53rd with a 73. His round included a birdie on the par-4 18th hole. 

AU sophomore Wilhelm C. Berg Von Linde finished his first round tied for 65th with a 2-over-par 74 performance. Von Linde had birdies on 13 and 14. 

AU sophomore Hampus Wijkstrom completed the first day tied for 69th place after he finished at 3-over-par with a 75. Wijkstrom had four birdies.

AU’s sole individual this week, freshman CJ van Wyk, finished day one tied for 87th place with a 78, six-over-par.

Eight different golfers from different schools find themselves ending day one with a share of the lead as all shot a 68, four-under-par. Of those eight golfers, seven are from different schools. Louisville, Georgia Southern, Villanova, Charlotte, East Tennessee State, Furman and Virginia Tech all claimed a tie for first place. 

Louisville and East Tennessee State were tied for first in the team competition with a score of 11-under-par.  

AU will start round two at 9:15 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11, paired with Coastal Carolina and Penn State.
