Staff report

Augusta University’s Jazmyn Wheeler, already named Southeast Region player of the year, was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association all-America team on Dec. 7.

Wheeler, an outside hitter from Phoenix, Ariz., was named to the NCAA Division II second-team all-America squad.

Wheeler finished the season with a team-high 471 kills and 19 double-doubles. She also had 394 digs. She led the Jaguars to a 29-5 (.853) record. That included both the regular-season and post-season tournament championships in the Peach Belt Conference—the first time both had been achieved in the same season in program history.

The AU outside hitter was named PBC player of the week four times this past season, which ended in the Sweet Sixteen with a loss to Anderson University.

Teammates Janvier Buggs and Dariana Luna were named honorable mention All-Americas. Buggs finished the season with 973 assists, or 8.11 per set. She also led the team in aces. Luna, the team’s libero, finished with 638 digs. Luna was second in the Peach Belt Conference with 5.32 digs per set. The senior from Caracas, Venezuela, was a first-team all-conference selection and AVCA first-team all-region.
