AU volleyball gets sweep of Carson-Newman, Mount Olive at Lander

The Augusta University volleyball team ran its record to 18-4 with victories over Carson-Newman and Mount Olive on Saturday, Oct. 21, in Greenwood, S.C., in NCAA Division II crossover action.

The Jaguars defeated Carson-Newman of the South Atlantic Conference by scores of 23-25, 25-14, 25-17, 25-14 in their opener. Jazmyn Wheeler led the way with 16 kills, followed by Sophia Kruczko and Jordan Jerome with nine kills each.

Janvier Buggs had 40 assists and three aces for Augusta, and Dariana Luna had 26 digs. Ally Thees added 17 digs and two aces. Kruczko and Madelyn Eden each had four blocks for AU, which hit at a .236 clip, compared to .076 for the Eagles (10-13).

In the finale, AU got a 25-8, 25-19, 25-23 victory over Mount Olive of Conference Carolinas. Wheeler and Savannah Davis paced the Jaguars with 12 and 10 kills, respectively. Jerome added nine kills. Buggs had 25 assists and Luna 11 digs. Rylie Harris had nine digs and two aces.

The Trojan (16-9) were led by Ashlyn Stone with 11 kills.

The Jaguars will play at rival USC Aiken on Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 6 p.m.
