There's new campus royalty: Maddox and Gibson crowned Homecoming 2022 King and Queen

Augusta University crowned a new Homecoming King and Queen on Saturday, Feb. 19, at Christenberry Fieldhouse. The crowning took place during halftime of AU’s men’s basketball game.

Isaiah Maddox, a junior majoring in health, society and policy from Covington, GA., was crowned the 2022 Homecoming King. He is also a 1828 Ambassador at AU. Maddox says he was very surprised to win the award.

“I saw that my fraternity friends were running, I was kind of surprised that I won because I am not in a fraternity, so that was a shocker,” he said.

Maddox also said it was awesome to win and spoke on what AU has meant to him since coming to the school.

“It was a amazing. It is a great opportunity, I didn’t think I would win and just did it for fun,” said Maddox. “When I first came here, I didn’t know anybody and as time when on, I started to know so many people and started to build bonds with them.”

Caroline Gibson, a junior kinesiology major from Gainesville, GA., was crowned as 2022 Homecoming Queen. She is also the vice president for Panhellenic Relations for Alpha Delta Pi.

"Winning homecoming queen is an honor,” she said. “I am so proud to represent Augusta University. I am so lucky to be able to give back to the university that has given me so much."

Gibson said that participating in the events for homecoming week was a great opportunity.

"My overall experience during homecoming week was pure joy," she said. "I loved being able to meet and form relationships with my fellow students.”

The duke and duchess was also crowned the night before the at the Homecoming Dance Party on Friday, Feb. 18.

Luke Anderson, a sophomore nursing major from Powder Springs, GA., was crowned as the 2022 Homecoming Duke. Anderson is also a member of the Black Student Union at AU.

Makayla Xiong, a sophomore biology major from Rock Hill, S.C., was crowned as the 2022 Homecoming Duchess. Xiong is also the president of the Asia Club on campus.

The Jaguars men’s and women’s basketball teams were also able to get the win at the Homecoming games on Saturday to cap off the week of celebratory events.
