The Augusta men’s golf team started Tuesday’s (April 23) round behind Lamar University by two strokes, but finished with a 10-shot lead at the par-72, 7,253 Comanche Trace course in Beaumont, Texas.

As a team, the Jaguars carded a whopping 13-under-par total in the second round to grab the lead in the 10-team field. Lamar University is second at 1 under par through 36 holes. Houston Christian is third at 5 over par.

Cole Stevens led the Jaguars and the field with a 5-under-par day to bring his score to 9 under par for the tournament, holding the solo lead headed into the final round today (April 24).

His teammate, Stefan Jacobs, jumped up the leaderboard to third place with a 3-under-par day. Another Jaguar, Dawson Booth, came in also at 3 under par to hold his place at fifth on the leaderboard.

Southland Conference golfer of the month Ryan van der Klis got back to playing his best golf with a 2-under-par day bringing him down to four-over for the tournament. If he can keep it up and climb into the top ten, Coach Steven Paine’s Jaguars can run away with this tournament win, successfully defend their 2023 title and get ready for NCAA regionals.

Round three begins at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 24, but the Jaguars first player won’t tee off until 12:15 p.m.

You can watch the coverage of the Jaguars in action on ESPN+.

The AU women will find out what regional they are in this afternoon. The team will watch the selection show at Bodega Ultima at Surrey Center.
