See how AU's Jaguars spend the holiday break

It is the best time of the year to be a college student. Holiday break is upon us which means that finals are over and we now have an entire month without the stress of school.

Everyone’s holiday break is spent differently. Some go on vacations, some visit family, and some just stay cozy indoors. Whatever your holiday break preference may be, a fellow student is sure to be spending the break in a similar way.

After a grueling semester of schoolwork, most students would prefer to take some time to themselves and relax. This is not the case for senior Alex Rountree, as he plans on working as much as possible at Doc’s Porchside over the break.

“I can never just sit still; I always need to keep myself moving especially during a break from school like this. The holidays are a great time to work because everyone is looking to spend money, and I’d like to make some myself,” said Rountree.

For those who enjoy a fast-paced kind of break like Rountree does, perhaps another student is spending her holiday break similar to you.

Freshman Sierra Baker is excited for the break because it means that she can finally get out of her hometown of Augusta and go on a ski trip with her family. Baker claims that this is something that her family does annually and that she always looks forward to it.

“The ski trip that I go on with my family is always one of the highlights of my year. We always go out west to Colorado, which is just a beautiful state to me and spend all day on the slopes,” Baker said.

Junior Bryson Burke spends his holiday break in a more traditional manor and really gets into the holiday spirit. From Christmas tree shopping to setting up lights, Burke covers all angles of the holidays.

“My family takes the holidays very seriously, and it shows through their decorating. They always have to have the best possible tree with the shiniest ornaments and the brightest lights, and it absolutely rubbed off on me,” Burke said.

Lastly, if you are spending the holidays in Augusta, the city offers a plethora of activities to put you in the holiday spirit. The website visitaugusta.com lists several activities going on around the city during the holidays which include Christmas light viewings, ice skating, plays, concerts and even a parade.

The holiday break is a long and well-deserved break from school, and how ever you may choose to spend it, I hope that it is full of joy and allows you to relax and destress before the start of next semester.
