Augusta University women’s golf team tied for 11th, with Teresa Diez-Moliner leading the charge, at the Clemson Invitational on the Reserve at Lake Keowee golf course in Sunset, S.C.

“I think we did a lot of good things as a team,” said AU’s Mary Hunt Murray. “It was cool to all play together in a group because we’ve never done that before, so we got to spend time together and learn from each other’s games. We had a rough start and came back strong the last two rounds.”

The field of teams held 18 of the top women’s golf programs in the country. The field included the host Clemson, Notre Dame, Illinois, Furman, Indiana, Kent State, Kansas, Maryland, Michigan State, Ohio State, Old Dominion, Louisville, Purdue, UNC Wilmington, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin.

Kent State would go on to win, led by individual winner Caley McGinty. The Golden Flashes totaled 852. Runner-up Virginia Tech (862), Maryland (865), Clemson (867) and Illinois (871) would go on to round out the top five.

Diez-Moliner had her best finish of the season at 33rd, shooting 74, 7, and 72 for 221. Not far behind, Napabhach Boon-In finished 39th at 223.

Murray tied for 52nd place at 226, with Nicole Page falling three shots higher for 62nd. Charlotte Alran rounded out the scoring for the Jaguars at 242, finishing 90th.

“As an individual, I had a really rough first round, and then came back the next two shooting +1 then -1,” Murray said. “The course was one of our more difficult ones, so I was proud of those scores.”

The Jaguars now prepare to travel to the Eastern Carolina University Easter Invitational at the Ironwood Country Club in Greenville, N.C., on April 3-4.

“Looking ahead to our next competition, we are mostly letting our bodies rest and get ready for our next event since it’ll be 36 holes in a day,” Murray said. “We are still practicing and working hard, just not pushing ourselves too hard in workouts or time on the course.”

Update: Augusta was in second place late in the second round of the Eastern Carolina University Easter Invitational. The Jaguars were six shots behind first-place Coastal Carolina and one shot ahead of third-place College of Charleston. AU’s Napabhach Boon-In was tied for third.
