New AU science and math building ready for fall semester

Augusta University is almost ready for the new College of Science and Mathematics building, and staff will move in the next coming days.
Faculty and staff are planning on moving in as soon as next week.
The new building is a four story, 124,518-square-foot building and was a $70 million project. It will be located on the Health Sciences campus in range to the Medical College of Georgia, the Dental College of Georgia, the College of Nursing, and the AU Medical Center.
The building will include 22 teaching labs, more than 80 faculty offices , a tutoring center and project labs.
AU says the reasoning for the new building is it will attract more students interested in health science careers, grow enrollment, support the creation of more graduate programs, and it gives more opportunity for faculty and students to conduct scientific research. It will also provide more room for the colleges on the Summerville campus to expand.
Earlier this year, AU President Brooks A. Keel, Medical College of Georgia Dean David Hess, and College of Science and Mathematics Dean John Sutherland spoke as a beam was being raised for a bridge being built between the new math and science building and the Interdisciplinary Research Center.
“The bridge is more than just symbolic, but is a great symbolism of ridging the undergraduate College of Mathematics with the health sciences and graduate degrees and opportunities we have here,” said Keel during the gathering.
This will also help faculty and students come together in research.
Equipment and furniture were delivered earlier this month, and the building is nearly ready for students to join the classroom this upcoming fall semester.
