Jaguars sweep Benedict College in non-conference basketball

The Augusta University women defeated Benedict College 60-49 on Nov. 22 in Columbia, S.C., and the Jaguar men had to rally to beat the Tigers 77-69 on the same night.
Both AU teams improved to 4-0 on the young season.
In the women’s game, Tomiyah Alford led the way with 19 points for the Jaguars. Alford made 8-of-12 shots from he floor. Teammate Kennedi Manning added 11 points and as many rebounds. Autumn Phillips had 9 points and 5 rebounds.
Mahogany Randall paced the Tigers with 12 points, followed by Emiya Gallman with 11.
Augusta shot 45 percent from the field and held Benedict to 32-percent shooting.
In the men’s game, the Jaguars fell behind 12-0 to start the contest but rallied to cut the Tiger lead to 34-27 at the half. Then AU outscored Benedict 50-35 in the second half to put the game away.
The Jaguars were led by 7-foot-1 center Tyshaun Crawford with 25 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocked shots. Crawford made 13 of 17 from he foul line. Guard Miguel Arnold added 19 points and 9 boards for the Jaguars.
Coach Dip Metress got solid play from Darren Lucas-White and David Viti. Lucas-White had 9 assists to go with 7 points and 7 rebounds. Viti had 13 points and 4 boards.
Brandon Smith led Benedict with 22 points.
The AU women next play on Sunday, Nov. 27, against Wingate at Christenberry Fieldhouse at 1:30 p.m.
The Jaguar men will play at Catawba on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at 7 p.m.
