In first action in a year, Jaguars finish 14th at Heroes Women’s Intercollegiate golf tournament

After not competing since February 2020, the Augusta University women’s golf team was excited to be back on the course competing during the spring 2021 season.

The AU women’s golf team competed in their its tournament back at the Heroes Intercollegiate Feb. 7-9 at the Founders Club in Sarasota, Fla. There were 15 teams competing, and the Jaguars completed the final day at 16 over par to finish in 14th place.

Senior Teresa Diez-Moliner led the way for AU and finished in 35th place with rounds of 72 (even par), 75 (3 over par) and 77 (+5).

Sophomore Napabhach Boon-In finished in 39th place with rounds of 82 (+10), 69( -3) and 74 (+2). Senior Nicole Page and freshman Mary-Hunt Murray both finished tied for 65th with 19-over-par totals, while senior Charlotte Alran finished in 73rd place.

Oklahoma State claimed the tournament championship at 15 under par. Ole Miss finished second at 13 under par and the University of Georgia rounded out the top three at even par. Augusta finished with a team score of 50 over par to complete the Jaguars’ first event back in action.

Maja Stark of Oklahoma State was the medalist with a three-day total of 201. She shot 66, 66 and 69. Julia Johnson of Ole Miss was second at 207.

The Heroes Intercollegiate tournament was hosted by Purdue University.

The AU women’s golf team’s next tournament will be at the 54-hole Moon Golf Invitational at the Duran Golf Club in Viera, Fla., on Feb. 14-16. The tournament is hosted by the University of Louisville.
