Jaguar baseball gets 5-1 victory over rival USC Aiken at SRP Park
Staff report
NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C.—The Augusta University baseball team used a five-run sixth inning and seven pitchers to down rival USC Aiken 5-1 at SRP Park on March 29 in the annual Battle on the River.
Parker Ingram had two hits, a run scored and an RBI to lead the Jaguars’ offense. Pat Galvin added a double and a run for AU (14-15).
JR Fordham picked up the win on the mound with two innings of scoreless middle relief. Britt Kelly also tossed two innings of scoreless relief. Mason Bernard, Brian Trepanier, Turner Sircy, Logan Howell and Jasper Dubberly pitched for the Jaguars as well.
“The win is huge for us,” Kelly said. “It was great to come out and execute the way we did against a really good team in Aiken. The pitching was great all around, we all came in and did our jobs so we could keep the offense out there.”
Jordan Wilkie started the scoring for Augusta in the sixth with a single that drove in Kyle Lodise. Kyle LaRoche then singled in Pat Galvin before Ingram drove in Wilkie for a 3-0 Jaguar lead. LaRoche would score on an error, and Ingram scored on Koby Ayala’s sacrifice fly.
After Augusta pushed across those five runs in the top of the sixth, the Pacers (20-11) did plate a single run in the bottom of the inning. However, that was the only run USCA could muster in front of 551 at the home of the Augusta Greenjackets.
The Jaguars will host a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader on Friday, March 31, against Lander. First pitch of the open is at noon. The second game is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. The Jaguars stand 6-11 in the PBC. Lander is 9-6 in the conference and 13-18 overall.
The Jaguars and Pacers will play again in a PBC series beginning at April 6 in Aiken.
