Students of the Hull College of Business were welcomed into their majors with a special event in the Roscoe Williams Ballroom in the JSAC on Tuesday, Jan. 31.
The event served as a way to introduce students to several resources that are available to them and are specific to the Hull College of Business. Though it was required for business majors to attend, students who are minoring or taking classes in the college were welcome to attend as well.
Janna Moore, coordinator of business programs internal, said that the program has been in continuation for quite some time and has found it to be an enjoyable experience for the students.
“We originally began this event to help the students transition from general academic advisement to academic advisement in the college,” she said.
Moore said that the event aims to encourage students to become involved earlier with their academic careers in an area of focus that is of interest to them.
“We are hoping this will engage students more in the college,” she said. “It’s also kind of a chance for them to network with other faculty and other students. It just gives them a chance to get to know people that are here to help them.”
Rick Franza, the dean of the Hull College of Business, also delivered remarks at the event. He said the college is committed to the success of business students. He also recognized several organizations on campus to help students, including Career Services, Academic Advisement and Student Counseling and Psychology Services.
“We’re all here to support your journey through the Hull College,” he said. “Our goal is to get you a great job and a great career in business.”
This event comes as a change in leadership at Hull College is expected to take place in the coming weeks.
Provost Neil MacKinnon announced in a statement on Feb. 1 that Franza will resign as dean on March 1 and return to his passion of teaching as a full-time faculty member this fall.
“I appreciate his leadership and am happy that he will be remaining with AU, as his experience and knowledge are valuable assets to our business students,” MacKinnon said.
Associate Dean Mark Thompson will serve as interim dean until a replacement is found.
