Hope for Spring 2021 stage performances at Augusta University

A sign of hope for stage performers, and theatre goers, was posted Sept. 21 on the Theatre AUG Instagram page for auditions being held for a new play performance. The abrupt shutdown of Augusta University in mid-March of this year had put a pause on any stage performances planned out for the rest of the spring and summer semesters.
The play the students will audition for is Metaphysique D’Ephemera, written by Sarah K. Jackson and Christopher Shipman, Associate Professor Melanie O’Meara said. The play is inspired by Joseph Cornell, an American artist, and his assemblage of how he creates art, O’Meara added.
O’Meara is directing this play for the spring semester of 2021.
“We will need 10-ish students involve, and not looking for any type of specific person,” said O’Meara who is in need of actors for the future performances.
O’Meara added unlike other performances in the past, due to the coronavirus the actors will only be students at Augusta University, and no actors from off campus.
The auditions will be held via Microsoft Teams on Oct. 19 and 20 between the times of 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
“They will read parts of the script for their audition,” O’Meara said.
Although the auditions will be held online, the callbacks will be in person, O’Meara noted.
Due to AU policies because of the coronavirus, the play will only have a certain number of audience members, but having a performance in the Maxwell is still not allowed. O’Meara said she will hold the performance outside at the Teardrop on Summerville Campus.
