Student organizations tabled at the Augusta University Douglas Barnard Amphitheater for AU’s annual Club Fest on Aug. 22.
At this event, organizations provided students with information regarding clubs and other activities offered on campus.
Mari Elizabeth Valencia, a junior tabling at Club Fest for Alpha Chi Omega said, “I love when we do Club Fest because it’s a great opportunity to find clubs you didn’t even know existed. It’s so much fun and is a great way to meet people and build more connections on campus!”
At Club Fest, students could talk to various tables ranging from religious organizations, sororities and fraternities, student jobs and more. Some of these include: Teachers for Tomorrow, Baptist Collegiate Ministry, Medical Occupations Community, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Student Government Association, Fraternity and Sorority Life, The Masters Tournament and Delight, among others.
Not only did these organizations offer information about themselves and how to join, but they also gave out fun goodies such as popsicles, beverages, and informational pamphlets to students in attendance at Club Fest.
Valencia said, “Club Fest was extra fun for my organization because we brought popsicles, which was very much needed in this Georgia heat! Being involved within a university is so important and definitely makes going to college much more worth it.”
Student organizations are a great way to get more involved on campus. Not only did Club Fest feature clubs, but organizations offering student jobs were in attendance as well. The Masters Tournament came to talk with students about job openings this coming spring.
Cynthia Weiland, the HR Coordinator at the Augusta National Golf Club said, “we are going to have a job expo for the students, staff and faculty of Augusta University on Sept. 12 and 13. This is to work the Masters Tournament, which is going to be held during Augusta University’s spring break. If you want to come out and meet everybody for the job expo, you can meet all the hiring managers and introduce yourself to find out a little bit more about the jobs that are available!”
Whether a student is a freshman or a senior, finding a place to connect with other college students can be helpful in navigating university life. It opens up the door to making friendships as well as making a difference in the AU community.
Kyle LaRoche, one of the leaders of Fellowship of Christian Athletes said, “we see our role on campus as vital. College is a difficult time for Christ followers and non-Christ followers alike. There are a lot of temptations on a college campus and FCA is a perfect place for college students to get away”.
