Finals week is here, and now it's time to find a good place to study and before exams. Here are five places to study and unwind before finals around Augusta University’s campuses.

1. Reese Library

The Reese library is the perfect place to prepare to ace those final exams. With three floors to study on, there is plenty of space and resources available to help with studying. Emma Kate Morgan, Access Services Librarian at Reese Library, said the second and third floors are the most popular among students because of the open study rooms and the plethora of computers.

The Reese Library is located on Augusta University’s Summerville Campus in the Jaguar Student Activities Center. It sits across from the food court, making it convenient to stop between classes to work on assignments and study.

“There's a lot of collaborative and comfortable space on the second floor,” said Morgan. “You can also reserve the study rooms, so you know you're guaranteed the space that you want.”

Third-year medicine major Shamara Battle says that although she takes classes on the Health Science Campus, she comes to Reese library because of the abundance of space for her to study.

“Even though I'm in medical school on the Health Science Campus, the parking for Greenblatt Library is harder to get to,” said Battle. “I have two cats at home, so I can't get anything done there, and I don't see any of my classmates here, so it's a nice uncompetitive space for me to get stuff done.”

The Reese Library also has presentation rooms equipped with monitors and HDMI cables that connect to computers to display content on large screens. In need of a computer or special equipment? You can also check out laptops, DSLR cameras, tripods, and even karaoke machines at the Information Technology help desk inside Reese Library.

If you are looking for something to do during your study break, check out the Reese Room on the second floor of Reese Library, which houses rare book collections.

The Reese Room acts as a mini-museum for rare book collections and is designed to look like a 19th-century private library that features 19th-century period furniture and decor.

The Reese Room is accessible by appointment only. You can contact Maranda Christy, Special Collections Assistant, at mchristy@augusta.edu to make an appointment.

2. Greenblatt Library

The Greenblatt library is another great place to prepare for exams. Located on the Health Science Campus, Greenblatt Library has two floors with open study and presentation rooms, quiet reading areas, and a computer lab.

Benitta Askew, Greenblatt Library Medical Library Associate, said the private study rooms are the most popular place for students to study inside the library.

The second floor inside Greenblatt library is currently closed as it is under construction, as more study rooms are being added. All library services are still available.

Inside the Greenblatt Library is the Creative Technology Lab, where you can print, scan and design 3D objects and use the Cricut machine to cut out letters, numbers or objects for posters.

“The coolest thing we’ve done this year is 3D scan an ultrasound photo students used to study and practice with,” said Medical Library Makerspace Associate Matt Atkinson. “It saved on cost because they didn’t have to use a $10,000 machine.”

If you’re looking for a fun escape during your study break, you can check out the new Virtual Dimensions Studio on the first floor of Greenblatt Library. Here you can play virtual reality games for up to two hours. To book the space, sign up at https://www.augusta.edu/library/greenblatt/.

3. Academic Success Center

Located in University Hall on the Summerville Campus, the Academic Success Center is the one-stop-shop for your academic needs. The ASC offers in-person tutoring, drop-in tutoring, virtual tutoring, one-on-one sessions and small group sessions through online appointment scheduling.

Inside the ASC are quiet study spaces, large whiteboards, laptop stations and a complimentary coffee bar.

Freshman business major Mone Florence is a student-athlete and says studying at the ASC helps her balance playing basketball and academics.

“I study here about three days out of the week,” said Mone Florence. “We have a study hall to make sure we’re staying on top of our grades.” “We also have a peer coach that keeps us on track.”

You can also set up appointments with Academic Success Center consultants to help you prepare for exams, meet project deadlines, and stay motivated in your classes.

4. Jaguar Student Activity Center

The Jaguar Student Activity Center on Summerville Campus offers study areas on the first and second floors of the building. There are tables inside the food court and sofa chairs in the common space area on the first floor. The second floor is a quiet area with more sofa seating and device charging stations. While studying, you can grab a bite to eat inside the food court that offers smoothies, coffee, pizza, sub sandwiches, chicken, salads, wraps and grab-and-go food items.

The JSAC also has seven event and meeting spaces available through reservations and a game room that offers billiards, table tennis and video games.

5. Amphitheater

If you’re looking for an outdoor space to study, the amphitheater on the Summerville Campus is the perfect place. The amphitheater is a large open outdoor space where you can sit or lay on the turf stairs to study for exams. The amphitheater is also the perfect place to unwind or take a break from long hours of studying.

“When I study in my room, I find it easy to get distracted,” said junior kinesiology major Becca Hildreth. “When you are inside, it feels like the environment is closed and stale, but when you’re outside, it’s open, you have fresh air, and it helps with stress.”
