Ever Onward Fund to cover cost of white coats for nursing students

Augusta University College of Nursing students will have the cost of their white coats covered, thanks to the Ever Onward Award Fund established to remember the late Dean Emerita Lucy Marion.
Symbolizing the start of each nurse’s journey, the White Coat Ceremony is an opportunity for students to promise to uphold and acknowledge the ethical values of the profession. It has since continued, recognizing the rite of passage for nursing students and other health care occupations.
“The White Coat Ceremony is a huge milestone for those in nursing school,” said 2024 BSN Class President Ashley Harper. “It signifies one, that students are dedicated to their nursing profession, and two, they can begin caring for patients in a clinical setting.”
In addition to the sponsorship of white coats, the fund will also be used to support other items like scrubs and stethoscopes.
“I am thrilled to hear about this award fund, and I know it will make a huge impact on the new future nurses entering into this program,” she said.
Marion, who served as dean of the College of Nursing from 2004 through 2019, is remembered for being a passionate nursing pioneer with over five decades of experience as a nurse, educator, researcher and advocate.
“The donations to Ever Onward provide that much more support to students who are truly pursuing a calling like no other,” said Interim Dean Beth NeSmith. “We are so grateful to our donors for honoring her legacy by contributing to the success of future nurses.”
