Coffee Week: Relic

Coffee Week: Relic

By Katelen Selph | Staff writer

Relic is a relatively new coffee shop near the Augusta University Summerville campus. Their coffee beans are sourced from family farms in Ecuador and are roasted in Athens, Georgia. The coffee shop even features homemade Ecuadorean baked goods.

Relic is a family-owned and operated business. They opened up a little over 5 months ago and are committed to integrity and the craft of coffee. The name of the shop is meant to be an actual relic of coffee itself. Every culture has its own way of doing coffee and now a little bit of Ecuador has been brought to Augusta.

Nikole Gonzalez, the general manager and sister to the owner, says, “Everybody has their own way of drinking it and consuming it around the world. It’s just respecting coffee the best way that we can.”

Because of Ecuador’s range of altitudes, the environment is perfect for coffee beans to grow and also creates a variety of flavors. Relic also creates its sweetener, Panela, in-house. This is a natural sweetener and is made from dehydrated sugar cane. Panela does not have a coffee flavor and is used as the base of all of Relic’s in-house syrups. Along with coffee, has the influence of Ecuadorian bread made right in-house.

Relic is located at 1504 Monte Sano Ave, Augusta, GA 30904.
