Augusta University’s class of 2026 kicked-off its official start to college with a convocation ceremony and brunch on the Summerville Campus on Tuesday, Aug. 16.
The incoming group of students took part in a few of their first campus traditions including pinning the class pin, singing the alma mater and the ringing of the Arsenal Bell.
In his address to the freshmen, AU Provost Neil MacKinnon said each of the freshmen are here “on purpose, for a purpose.” MacKinnon said there is much to expect from the students over the next four years.
“I believe that you are here at the right place, at the right time,” said MacKinnon.
After convocation, students took the time to speak with faculty from various departments and colleges in the grove over a light brunch of a bagel and a fruit cup.
Vasthi Saintil, a nursing major from Atlanta, said she is looking forward to the new experiences she will have at AU. Adjusting to the new environment, she said she hopes to “make great connections for future jobs and really just make life-long friends too.”
Chasity Harvey, a kinesiology major, plans to practice athletic training with her degree.
“I’ve always wanted to come here,'“ said Harvey. “ They had a good program for what I wanted to do.”
