Augusta University’s Homecoming Week has officially come to a close, leaving students with lasting memories of excitement, school spirit, and fierce competition. This year’s festivities proved that AU students are no strangers to celebrating, with campus organizations fully embracing each event and making the most of every opportunity.

From the unveiling of banners and candidates at the fireworks kickoff to the crowning of new homecoming royalty at the dance and basketball game, the week was packed with energy and tradition.

Homecoming Kickoff

The annual Homecoming Kickoff set the tone for the week ahead, generating excitement and anticipation. The official reveal of this year’s theme, Forever Blue, captivated students, with organizations drawing inspiration from the Netflix hit Stranger Things. Each participating group showcased a banner incorporating elements from the show, including references to The Upside Down, the iconic bikes used by the protagonists, and even figures of Augustus, Augusta University’s mascot.

Following the banner reveal, students gathered behind the JSAC Amphitheater to enjoy the annual fireworks show, marking the official start of Homecoming Week.

Meet & Greet and Candidate Cookout

The Homecoming Court candidates had their first opportunity to connect with students during a meet-and-greet event on the Health Sciences Campus, where they shared their platforms and vied for votes.

The following day, the campaign continued with the Candidate Cookout at the JSAC Amphitheater. Candidates interacted with students once again, this time offering food at their respective tables to encourage engagement and support.

JagMania

One of the biggest highlights before the crowning of homecoming royalty was JagMania, the annual Homecoming dance competition. This event allows student organizations to showcase their best choreography in hopes of securing a top-three finish.

This year’s JagMania champion was Zeta Tau Alpha, followed by Alpha Delta Pi in second place and the Caribbean Student Association in third. While the event is designed to be fun and entertaining, the competition was fierce, with each team bringing impressive performances.

Homecoming Dance

The highly anticipated Homecoming Dance kicked off at 8 p.m. on Friday, offering students a chance to show off their dance moves and celebrate together before the big announcement.

At 9:30 p.m., Augusta University crowned its new Homecoming Duke and Duchess:

  • Homecoming Duke: Carlton Collins, a second-year biology major with a psychology minor.

  • Homecoming Duchess: Rebecca Armani Thomas, a second-year business administration major with a double minor in French and psychology.

Homecoming Basketball Game

The week’s grand finale took place at the Homecoming basketball game, where Augusta University hosted the University of North Georgia Nighthawks. Student organizations packed the stands, supporting both their candidates and the Jaguars as they fought for a homecoming victory.

At halftime, the winners of Homecoming King and Queen were announced:

  • Homecoming King: Suhayb Nijim, a third-year cell and molecular biology major with a minor in business.

  • Homecoming Queen: Leilani Watson, a third-year business administration major.

To top off the celebrations, the Jaguars secured a thrilling 65-61 victory over UNG, closing out an unforgettable Homecoming Week in style.
