Augusta University held first job fair of the year

Augusta University held its first job fair of 2021 virtually with the hope to connect more students to job and internship opportunities on Feb. 19.

The virtual job fair was hosted on Handshake, an application found in the Apple and Google play stores free of charge, as well as a website. Students who attended the job fair first registered in Handshake, then selected from the wide array of 40 employer’s group sessions or individual interview slots.

Among the employers who attended were T-Mobile, TEKsystems, Norfolk Southern, Cintas Corporation, ADP Incorporated, Peace Corps, among many others. An advantage of the job fair was based around location, which allowed AU students to be accepted into it.

To prepare for the fair, AU encouraged students to ensure the capability of their audio and video from either a phone or computer, complete the Handshake profile and upload a resume to their profile.

All Handshake sessions came with the options of video, audio, and text-based chat. However, the employers individually decided which mode of communication they preferred.

Handshake also provided tips on how to follow up with the job fair sessions. The tips included following the company profile in Handshake, messaging other students who have listed the employer of interest as their workplace and responding to employer messages.
