Staff report

Behind the play of Natalia Yoko, Augusta University found itself tied for fourth in the Valspar Augusta Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club after the first round on Saturday, March 12.

Yoko shot a 2-over-par 74 in the windy, cold conditions, and she and her teammates were just six shots off leader South Carolina. Miami and Mississippi were tied for second, with AU tied in fourth win Florida State.

Furman University’s Anna Morgan leads the tournament individually, shooting a 1-under-par 71.

Nicole Page was AU’s next lowest scorer on Saturday with a75. She was followed by Napabhach Boon-In at 78, Kennedy Carroll at 80 and Chloe Holder at 82.

Conditions were brutal with win gusts above 40 miles per hour and falling temperatures through the round. The temperature was down to 45 degrees (F) at the day’s end.

Tournament officials decided to play only a 36-hole tournament due to the weather. After the 18 holes on Saturday, the teams will return Sunday for a single round to finish off the tournament.
