Augusta University’s baseball team won its first road game of the season on Tuesday, Feb. 15, at West Georgia by a 6-3 score.
Junior Walker Sinclair led the Jaguars going 4-for-4 with two RBIs. Junior Pat Galvin, senior Ben Markiewicz and senior Skylor Murphy had two hits each.
It would be a bullpen game for both teams as AU junior Cotton Phillips started on the mound against Robert Coleman.
Sinclair put the Jaguars (5-3) on the board first with an RBI single, making the score 1-0 in the top of the first inning.
AU reliever Darius Dunn entered the game in the bottom of the fourth for the Jags. The Wolves got to Dunn, getting three runs off four hits and taking the 3-1 lead.
Sophomore Britt Kelly replaced Dunn in the fourth, striking out four batters and giving up no hits in three and two-thirds innings.
Sinclair helped decrease the lead to 3-2 with an RBI double in the top of the fifth.
The Jaguars took the 4-3 lead in the top of the seventh with a two RBI double by Murphy. AU added two more runs in the last two innings to seal the road victory.
AU sophomore Alex Brown, who has struggled so far this season, came in for Kelly in the seventh, giving up no hits and finishing off the game for the Jaguars.
The Jaguars will head back on the road for a three-game series against Mars Hill University (2-8) on Friday, Feb. 18. Friday’s game will be at 2 p.m, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday at 11 a.m. and the final game at 2 p.m.
Augusta will play West Georgia (5-2) again in their next home game on Wednesday, Feb. 23, at Jaguar Field.
