AU women's basketball team wins at Benedict, improves to 8-2

Quinasia Abercrombie had 11 points and seven rebounds, and Autumn Phillips added 10 points as the AU women’s basketball team defeated Benedict 57-46 in Columbia, S.C.

Tyasia Freeman totaled nine points and seven boards for the Jaguars.

AU jumped to a 31-20 halftime lead before Benedict cut the lead to 39-32 in the third quarter. However, the Jaguars would pull away after Mone Florence hit a 3-pointer for a 42-32 lead with 9:42 left in the game.

AU has now won four straight, and the Jaguars improved to 8-2 overall. Their only losses were by one point to Francis Marion and two to Belmont Abbey.

Augusta, which is 1-0 in the Peach Belt Conference, will play one more non-conference game before the PBC campaign begins in earnest. The Jaguars will host Emmanuel on Jan. 1 at 4 p.m. at Christenberry Fieldhouse. They will open PBC play on Jan. 4 with a home game against Columbus State. Tip will be 1:30 p.m.
