AU volleyball moves back into first place with win at Young Harris

The Augusta University volleyball team defeated Young Harris University 3-0 on Friday, Oct. 7.

Winning the road match moved Augusta back into first place in the Peach Belt Conference. The team is now 6-2 in conference play and 14-5 overall. Lander lost at Flagler the same night. Lander fell to 6-3 in conference play.

Jazmyn Wheeler led the Jaguars in kills against Young Harris, totaling 16. She was followed by Kayli Cleaver with 7.

In a match full of assists, Samantha Zittrauer led AU with a total of 20. Abigail Breeden was not far behind with 15.

Set one ended with Augusta ahead 25-14. In the second set, the Jaguars doubled Young Harris’ score with a 25-12 win. In the final set, Augusta University claimed a 25-18 advantage to win the match.

The Jaguars overall dominated Young Harris in stats, having the advantage in every single category. AU hit at a very impressive .424 clip.

The Augusta University Volleyball team will be on the road again Tuesday, Oct. 11, at Lander University. This is a make up match from the one postponed by Hurricane Ian.

The first-place Jaguars will take on the second-place Bearcats at 6 p.m.
