AU volleyball sweeps on first day of Pacer Invitational

The Augusta University volleyball team ended a three-game losing streak with a sweep of North Greenville and Carson-Newman at the Pacer Invitational in Aiken, S.C., on Friday, Sept. 8.

In the opener, on Friday morning, the Jaguars rode the strong hitting of East Carolina transfer Sophia Kruczko, who had 10 kills, and the steady play of setter Abigail Breeden, who had 15 assists, in winning 25-19, 25-12, 25-17. That gave North Greenville it first loss of the season in four starts.

AU’s Jazmyn Wheeler added six kills and eight digs. Dariana Luna also had eight digs, and Jada Suguturaga added seven digs.

In the nightcap, Augusta also won in straight sets, over Carson-Newman (2-5). The scores were 25-15, 25-22, 25-17. Wheeler, the senior who was an honorable mention all-America selection last season, led the way with 12 kills, and Janvier Buggs had 16 assists. Luna was stout on defense for AU (3-3) with 16 digs.

On Saturday, Sept. 9, the Jaguars will play Lenoir-Rhyne at 11 a.m. and Belmont Abbey at 3 p.m.
