AU volleyball opens season at Florida Southern

Four-time defending Peach Belt Tournament champion Augusta University opens its 2022 volleyball campaign in a tournament at Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Fla., on Friday, Aug. 26.
The Jaguars (25-9 last season when they advanced to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight) open with Bloomfield College at noon on Friday. They then will take on host FSC at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Augusta will play Lynn at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27.
The Jaguars are led by Alexis Diaz-Infante, a senior middle blocker. Diaz-Infante, who is from Phoenix, Ariz., was named to the preseason all-PBC team last week.
AU lost standouts Chloe Allen and Kylie Martin to graduation, but Coach Sharon Quarles was busy in the offseason recruiting, landing several transfers who are likely to make major contributions this season.
The Jaguars will play in a tournament at USC Aiken over the Labor Day weekend.
Update: Augusta opened with a 3-0 win over Bloomfield College. Diaz-Infante led the way with nine kills. Samantha Zittrauer, a senior setter, had 21 assists and 9 digs. Jordan Jerome and Madelyn Eden had 8 kills each for the Jaguars … AU lost the nightcap to FSC in straight sets by scores of 25-18, 25-19, 25-18. Diaz-Infante led AU with seven kills.
