AU to play Tusculum in first round of volleyball regionals

The Augusta University volleyball team earned the second seed in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional, which will be played at Wingate in North Carolina.

The Jaguars, who are 27-4, captured both the regular-season and league tournament in the Peach Belt Conference. They will face Tusculum (22-6) in the opening round of the regional on Dec. 1 at 2:30 p.m. The Pioneers won the South Atlantic Conference Tournament last week, defeating Wingate in the final in four sets.

AU enters with a 13-match win streak and Tusculum has won 10 in a row.

In the other quarterfinal matchups, top-seeded Wingate takes on No. 8 Lenoir-Rhyne; fourth-seeded Anderson plays No. 5 USC Aiken; third-seeded Lander plays No. 6 Emmanuel.

The AU-Tusculum winner will face the Lander-Emmanuel winner in the semifinals.

Augusta’s Jazmyn Wheeler, Dariana Luna and Madelyn Eden all rank nationally statistically. Wheeler is in the top 30 in attacks per set, kills per set and total attacks. Luna is 14th in digs. Eden is ranked sixth in blocks per set.
