AU to host PBC/Gulf South Crossover at Christenberry

Augusta University’s volleyball team will take on Valdosta State on Friday, Sept. 15, at 2 p.m. in the Peach Belt/Gulf South Crossover at Christenberry Fieldhouse.

The Jaguars (6-3) are on a five-game winning streak. They are led by outside hitter Jazmyn Wheeler, who has a team-best 116 kills in 31 sets. She is second in digs at 84, behind libero Dariana Luna, who has 135.

Janvier Buggs, the transfer from Austin Peay, leads AU with 155 assists. Teammate Abigail Breeden has 100 assists. Middle hitter Jada Suguturaga leads in blocks with 26.

This is the home opener for Augusta.

Valdosta (6-3) is led by outside hitter Mackenzie Murray with 93 kills. Teammate Christina Pettigrew has 87. Audrey Bennett is the Blazers’ assist leader with 177 in 31 sets.

AU will also play on Saturday, Sept. 16, against Montevallo at noon and Mississippi College at 4 p.m.

Valdosta opens the tournament at 10 a.m. Friday against Georgia College, which will also play Montevallo, at 4 p.m. on the first day.

USC Aiken opens its play in the Crossover against Montevallo at 2 p.m. on the opening day. The finale Friday will have USC Aiken against Mississippi College at 6 p.m.

Saturday’s other matches include Georgia College against Mississippi College at 10 a.m., and USC Aiken against Valdosta State at 2 p.m.
