AU softball splits with Catawba

The Augusta University softball team defeated Catawba 7-6 in the first game of a doubleheader on March 5 in Salisbury, N.C.

Bobbi Poff and Paige Patterson homered for the Jaguars in the first and fifth innings, respectively.

Bailiee Roberts, who had three hits, then drove in the tying run the top of the sixth inning, and AU scored on a wild pitch to win the opener.

Madalyn Spinks was the winner for Augusta. Spinks pitched all seven innings and allowed only three earned runs.

Lauren Evens went 2 for 4 for AU, as did Patterson.

Catawba came back to win the nightcap 9-0.

Augusta (12-15) will return to Peach Belt Conference play with three games at top-ranked North Georgia (19-2) this weekend (March 8-9). The Nighthawks are scheduled to play a doubleheader with Emmanuel on March 6.
