AU women's tennis team gets weekend split; men fall to Middle Ga. State

The AU women shut out Clark Atlanta 7-0 in non-conference tennis action at Newman Tennis Center on Saturday, March 18.

Singles winners included Madeline Frediani, Andrea Gonzalez, Juliana Martinez, Priscilla Landi, Carlota Costa and Sofia Marquez. The AU women won all three doubles matches.

On Sunday, Middle Georgia State edged the AU women by a 4-3 score. AU dropped to 7-9 on the season. Singles winners for the Jaguars included Martinez, Costa and Landi. Middle Georgia took two of the three doubles matches.

The No. 27 Augusta University men’s tennis team also lost to Middle Georgia State 4-3 on Sunday. Singles winners for the Jaguars were Elie Azoulay, Alexis Bailhache and Arthur Valette. The Knights won two of the three doubles.

Earlier, the Augusta men (11-4) had defeated Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College 6-1 on March 16.

Update: The AU men defeated No. 31 Georgia College, 4-3, on Tuesday, March 21. Singles winners included for Augusta included Isago, Azoulay, Enzo Garutti and Victor Valentine. That was enough to clinch the victory … The Jaguar women play at Georgia College on Wednesday, March 22.
