AU men’s golf team starts season at Maui Jim Invitational

The Augusta University men's golf team starts its season Friday, Sept. 10, at the Mirabel Golf Club for the Maui Jim Invitational in Scottsdale, Ariz.
The Mirabel Golf Club is a par-70, 7,115-yard course. This is the first tournament of the season where AU Coach Jack O’Keefe’s team will compete against other colleges.
This year’s field consist of 15 teams including AU. The list of competitors is Alabama, Utah, Washington, Louisville, Arizona, Georgia State, Cal, New Mexico State, San Diego State, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Oregon, Arizona State and AU.
The first-round pairings on Friday for AU will be with Oregon and Clemson.
Among the golfers for the AU team competing are junior Alex van Wyk, sophomore Jack Vajda, sophomore Hampus Wijkstrom, junior Viktor Lindgren, sophomore Dawson Booth and freshman Gareth Steyn.
The Maui Jim Invitational kicks off the season as the first of 10 tourneys for the Jaguars. After this trip, AU will make stops in Tennessee, Wisconsin, Florida, Arizona, North Carolina, Georgia, Texas and then the team hosts the annual Augusta Haskins Award Invitational presented by Valspar at the Forrest Hills Golf Club, the Jaguars’ home course.
AU has moved from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference to the Southland Conference. AU plays NCAA Division I in men’s and women’s golf.
