AU men’s golf team gets second-place finish in Kennesaw tournament

The Augusta University men’s golf team placed second in the Pinetree Intercollegiate at the Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw on Oct. 24.
The Jaguars posted a 54-hole total of 858 at the par-72, 7,074-yard Pinetree Country Club course. Kennesaw State took first at 850. UT-Martin was third at 881. Ten teams participated in the tournament.
Dawson Booth led the way for AU at 213, good for second place in individual play. Booth shot a 67 on the last day and finished eight shots behind KSU’s Shaun Cook. It was the second time this season both finished with a 67 over the final 18.
AU had two teams competing. The Jags’ first squad of golfers included Booth, Stefan Jacobs, Ryan van der Klis, Cole Stevens and Josh Koekemoer. Klis placed third overall, Stevens tied for eighth, Jacobs tied for 14th and Koekemoer tied for 24th.
The Jaguars’ “B” team consisted of freshman Dalton Burts, sophomore Behn Heyns, freshman Chapman Barnett, sophomore Ian Pienaar and sophomore Dean Wilken.
Both groups from AU placed in the top five as the “B” team finished fifth at 889. Heyns finished tied for eighth in individual play at 217.
The team heads to the Kapolei Invitational in Oahu, Hawaii, on Oct. 31 through Nov. 2. This will be the last tournament of the fall season.
