AU men take second in UAH Chargers Invitational

The Augusta University men took second place on Saturday, Oct. 7, in the UAH Chargers Invitational cross-country meet.

Brandon Martin came in third and Avery Jaynes took ninth to pace the 23rd-ranked Jaguars, who totaled 98 points—just behind first-place Charleston (WVa.) University. The Eagles had 95 points. Host Alabama-Huntsville was third with 107.

Martin ran the 8-kilometer race in 25 minutes and 18.7 second. Jaynes finished in 24:29.5.

Sam Wilhelm of host UAH won the individual race in 24:0.1.7.

Patrick Motes was next for Augusta, in 27th with a time of 24:55.6, followed by Carlos Rodriguez in 24:56.6 for 29th place. Thomas Rischar was right behind Rodriguez in 30th place with a time of 24:56.7.

“Our thought our guys team showed what we are really capable of doing today,” said AU’s Motes. “I think with some more practice and working on closing the gap and trusting in ourselves even more, we will be even better.”

Peach Belt rival Flagler finished eighth in the men’s race.

Forty-five men’s teams ran in the meet.

Coach Jacob Burgamy’s Jaguars will compete in the Peach Belt Conference meet at the University of North Georgia on Oct. 21.
