AU men and women’s tennis team get wins over Converse University; women are undefeated

The Augusta University men and women’s tennis teams defeated Converse University on Sunday, Feb. 20, at Newman Tennis Center, both winning by 6-1 match scores.
In men’s doubles, AU seniors Ricard Rubio and Alvero Quereda defeated Converse University’s Merlin Bellet and Leopold Morel by a score of 6-3. AU senior Lucas Bolle and freshman Daniel Szczupak followed that up with a 6-3 victory over Gregoire Legrand and Paul Berrouet. AU freshman Tanguy Calicis and Herick Isago lost their doubles match 2-6 against Louka Queguiner and Cameron Davies for the Valkyries.
In men’s singles, each AU male won their match. Rubio defeated Bellet 6-0, 6-2. Bolle won his match against Morel 7-6, 6-1. Herick Isago defeated Legrand 6-2, 6-1. Szczupak won his match against Queguiner 6-1, 6-3. Berrouet defeated AU sophomore Quentin Cano Perez 6-4, 6-4, and Artur Abyan Davydovskiy defeated Davies with scores of 6-1 and 6-1.
On the women’s side, AU senior Teresa Franco Dias and freshman Claudia Borbon Roca won their doubles match against Tonya Glogowski-Watson and Luiza Estrada 6-3. AU freshman Julia De Macedo Moraes and senior Clara Bascuñana deMiguel defeated Maria Belen Vendrell and Marleen Prinz 7-5. AU senior Edith Rueda Croda and freshman Lea Mocher defeated Valentina Aparicio and Brooke Benefield 6-1.
In women’s singles, Roca won her match against Vendrell 6-1, 6-2. Moraes defeated Glogowski-Watson by scores of 6-1 and 6-2. Croda won her match against Prinz 6-1, 6-2. Converse’s Estrada defeated Dias 6-4, 0-6, 14-12. Bascuñana deMiguel defeated Benefield 6-0, 6-0, and Mocher defeated Aparicio 6-1,6-3.
Middle Georgia State University defeated AU 5-2 in men’s action on Monday, Feb. 21, at Newman. Bolle and Szczupak were the lone Augusta winners in doubles, while Davydovskiy got the home team’s only singles win. The Jaguars’ record dropped to 7-2 overall.
The unbeaten Augusta women scored a 4-2 team win over Middle Georgia and moved to 6-0 on the season. Singles winners included Bascuñana deMiguel, Dias, Moraes and Borbon Roca.
The Jaguar women will host North Georgia on Wednesday, Feb. 23, at 1 p.m., at Newman.
