AU baseball team sweeps College of Saint Rose in mid-week series
Staff report
Augusta University swept a pair of games from the College of Saint Rose on March 7-8 at Jaguar Baseball Field, winning the opener 9-7 and the finale 10-9.
In the second contest, Harrison Aulds got the game-winning hit in the bottom of the ninth as the Jaguars (7-10) scored all 10 runs in their final four at-bats. Aulds plated Kyle Lodise with the game winner.
Aulds went 3 for 6 with two RBI, and Parker Ingram homered for AU.
The Golden Knights (3-8) scored four runs each in the top of the sixth and seventh. Although the Jags countered with two runs in the bottom of both innings, they still found themselves down 8-4 going to the eighth.
Saint Rose added a run in the top of the eighth for a 9-4 advantage.
But back came the Jaguars with four runs in the bottom of the eighth and two in the ninth to complete the rally.
Aulds, Jordan Wilkie and Jared Martin each had an RBI in the eighth. The other run in that inning scored on a balk.
In the ninth, Koby Ayala scored on an error before Aulds’ game-winning hit.
The previous day, Augusta built an 9-2 lead and had to hold on when the Golden Knights scored five runs in the eighth.
Aulds was a standout in this game, too. He tripled and Charlie Erickson doubled for the Jaguars. Erickson led the way with a 3-for-3 day, and Aulds went 2 for 5 with two RBI.
AU will open a three-game series at Claflin University in Orangeburg, S.C., on Friday, March 10.
