Augusta University will join Paine College and Augusta Technical College to host the annual Tri-College Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration on Friday, Jan. 13 at noon at Paine College Gilbert-Lambuth Memorial Chapel.
The keynote speaker in this year’s celebration is Lewis V. Baldwin, a professor emeritus at Tennessee's Vanderbilt University. Baldwin focuses on religious studies as a historian and has published several books as an author.
Augusta University’s president Brooks Keel is also expected to deliver remarks at the event.
In a statement, Keel said that the event is something the university is pleased to be a part of the celebration and hopes to involve the surrounding area.
“We are proud to co-host this event to encourage the spirit of the service upheld by Dr. King and inspire future generations to engage our community as we fulfill Augusta University’s mission to provide quality education and health care opportunities to all,” he said.
The event will be open to the public.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day is on Monday, Jan. 16, 2023.
