Affordable things to do in Augusta: The Brunch House and Morris Museum of Art
By Janell Williams | Staff writer
This week’s search for affordable finds in Augusta took me to The Brunch House and the Morris Museum of Art.
It may have been the cold wind of the Georgia fall or the sweet smell of breakfast in the air that drew me to The Brunch House in downtown Augusta. Although the location is on the smaller side, the staff did their best to keep everyone accommodated. The customer service was excellent and, although there was a bit of a wait, the food was delicious and worth it.
Being as basic as I possibly can be, I ordered the shrimp and grits. The grits were very creamy but not to the point that they became soup. They were topped with andouille sausage, crisp bell peppers, onions and plump shrimp. Everything was perfectly seasoned and not too bad on the pocket –I dined for just under $20. I’ll definitely be back to try the lunch menu.
After I finished my meal, I headed a few streets over to the Morris Museum of Art. It was Sunday so the museum was free for me to explore. On a regular day, tours are only $5.
I loved exploring all the exhibits and making my own interpretations of the artwork. I took a self-guided tour, but pre-scheduled tours are offered if you would like a professional guide to explain the pieces. There is also a gift shop if you would like to get any souvenirs.
Once I was done, I went just behind the museum to the Augusta Riverwalk. It’s perfect for a romantic stroll or, for my fellow single readers, to just clear your mind and enjoy your own company.
Over the course of my outing, I spent less than $20 and went to three destinations to enjoy some good comfort food, explore some funky art, and take a relaxing walk along the river. If you are ever in the downtown area, these locations are great, affordable options.
