Ace of Augusta: Wheeler's all-American two-year career at AU

By Rachel Carman | Sports writer

Following is a look at Augusta University volleyball standout Jazmyn Wheeler, who last week was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s second-team all-American squad. That was the first second-team A-A selection for the Jaguars’ volleyball program.

The outside hitter led the Jaguars to both the Peach Belt Conference regular-season and tournament championships—the first time in program history AU has won the double in the same season. She was PBC player of the year two years in a row and PBC player of the week six times. She also was the AVCA Southeast Region player of the year. She had been honorable mention all-American in 2022.

Wheeler hails from Phoenix, Ariz., where she played for Sunnyslope High School, where she was an all-state player, and she then played at Scottsdale Community College and was NJCAA Division II Player of the Year in 2019 and two-time all-American at Scottsdale. After a brief stint at Cal Poly Pomona she transferred to AU, in part based on a recommendation of then AU player Alexis Diaz-Infante, who now plays professionally in Rome, Italy.

Wheeler, who is a business major at AU, was ranked nationally in three statistical categories this past season. She had a team-best 471 kills during the 2023 season and 394 digs, second-best on the team. She was second in service aces with 44.

Jazmyn sat down on the court at Christenberry Fieldhouse at Thanksgiving and talked about her volleyball career and her aspirations.
