Last year, The Bell Ringer published an article on the newly found club Medical Occupations Community (MOC).

The MOC was formed by a group of medical students that wanted to bring students of all academic disciplines in the medical field under one united group.

On Sept. 26, MOC will host and informational session at 5:30 p.m. in the Education Commons on the Health Sciences campus. Students of all years and majors are welcome.

Vikash Ayyappan, now junior pre-med student and president of MOC, said it’s been great to see the growth of the club.

“We have became the largest student organization with over two hundred members now,” he said. “We’re excited to see how far we can go.”

Since its formation, the club has won an award for best new student club for 2023.

Secretary of MOC, Richa Shah, junior business major with a concentration in healthcare management, said that it was important for the club to help students feel welcome and knowledge about jobs in the medical field.

“We’re doing a lot of social activities,” she said. “We just wanted to get members to know each other and have more involvement from the rest of the students.”

The club remains free for all members. MOC continues to hold fundraisers that will ensure the club stays that way for all those who would like to participate.

MOC will also be involved with Paceline, an annual bike ride organized to bring awareness and research for cancer. Paceline will be held on Oct. 15.

“This will be my third year doing it actually,” said Saad Tanzeem, a junior pre-med student and co-president of MOC. “It’s just a way to be able to experience being around other people who share you same goal.”
