A senior's salutation

With the spring 2023 semester ending at Augusta University, some students are experiencing their last days of college before stepping fully into the working world.
One of these students is Keytona Johns, a communication major. Johns is among the many students graduating on Friday, May 12. However, Johns said that the road to graduation has been a long one with finals in the mix.
“I've got to work on my capstone portfolio, and I've got to write a 10-page story, so it's a lot of final projects that are back-to-back and it's making me a little overwhelmed about graduation,” Johns said. “But, overall, I'm a little excited.”
While she said she won’t miss trying to find parking on the Summerville campus, Johns said that she will miss the people she’s met at AU.
“[I] like meeting all the personalities that I have and just being very hands-on with projects, with other people that I work on,” said Johns. “It’s going to be a little different in the workforce because I'll be working with other people and I'll be getting paid to do so, but a lot of people here are doing it to learn while others are doing it for a job.”
Even though she is an Augusta native, Johns transferred to Augusta University from Albany State University during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. She said that this decision helped her come out of her shell.
“I do think Albany State University is a very beautiful school and they were very helpful as well, but being so far away I was even more distant than I was when I first started out here,” Johns said. “I just wasn't connected to the school, so I feel like if I was still at Albany, I'd be distant.”
Now that Johns is leaving AU, she had some advice to share with future graduating seniors.
Johns said, “Be confident in what you know. Be confident in everything that you've done before.”
