Both the Augusta University (AU) men’s and women’s tennis teams crushed the Concord University Mountain Lions in their respective matches on Tuesday, March 13 at the Newman Tennis Center.Each AU team fought through the cold, blustery March winds to end the day with a perfect 9-0 victory.“The season is going very well for both guys and girls,” Coach Michael McGrath said afterwards. “The win for both teams over Francis Marion a couple weeks ago was very big. Our next home game will be Friday against Lander Univesity. Our main goal is to make it into the conference tournament the second week of April.”The women’s team did not drop a single set to the visiting Mountain Lions and only lost two singles games, meaning that all six singles players and all three doubles teams were nearly perfect throughout the match.“We practice six days a week to prepare both mentally and physically,” said AU’s Amelia Pinoargote, a senior from Ecuador. “Compared to last season, this season is going well, especially with our win over No. 20 Francis Marion in February.”This win was huge for both teams after coming off a loss to Young Harris 11 days prior.Currently, the women’s team stands at 7-5 for the season while the men stand at 6-7.Here is the breakdown of the day’s matches:MenAU 9, Concord 0Singles competition1.
