By Ben MarshallContributor The Augusta University (AU) baseball team is set to play the Newberry College Wolves this Wednesday, March 7. at 6 p.m. at Lake Olmstead Stadium. The Jaguars come into the game with a 6-13 overall record and a 4-8 conference record.Newberry travels to Augusta with an 8-9 overall record and 3-3 in the South Atlantic Conference.Jaguar coach Chris Howell stated his Jags need to play well from the start.“We need to minimize the damage early,” Howell said. “We need to stop the bleeding early. Many times we dig ourselves a hole and start out the game working from behind.”Howell mentioned the overall message to the team was to fight against adversity, and to not be afraid of failure.Howell was able to give us an insight on the game and key things Newberry does well.“They play a really good small ball,” he said. “Newberry does a very good job of turning the other team’s mistakes into runs on the board.”AU will have to play a smart defensive game to get the edge on the Wolves, he added. The Jaguars are coming off a tough weekend. They were swept by Columbus State, which ended a solid run of four wins in five games. The batting leaders for AU have been Harrison Moore, who is hitting .414 with 15 RBIs; Mason Robertson, who has 18 RBIs and two home runs; Ty Hobbs, who has four homers and 14 RBI; and Bakari Gayle, who has three homers and 15 RBI.
