AU to host P.R. professional Daniel Roberts for Leadership Lecture

By Charles Cates |ContributorA young executive for a major New York public relations firm will speak at Augusta University’s Leadership Lecture at 6 p.m. on Feb. 1 at the Summerville Campus.Daniel Roberts, an account executive for Edelman, will deliver a talk titled “College to Capitol: Using What You Learn Outside the Classroom to Land Your Dream Job.” The lecture will take place in University Hall Room 170. The lecture is free and open to the public.The AU Office of Student Life and Engagement, Pamplin College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, Department of Social Sciences and the Department of Communication are sponsoring the event.“We are excited to have Daniel Roberts on campus,” said Joe Pierce, Director of Student Engagement at AU. “He will offer our students a perspective that has been shaped through many identities: millennial, African American and LGBTQ+ community member, among many others.”Roberts works in Edelman’s New York Corporate & Public Affairs practice. He previously worked in Legislative Affairs and Communications for the Obama White House. After obtaining his B.A. in Public Policy Leadership from the University of Mississippi, he began his career as a White House intern for Michelle Obama, and then as a legislative correspondent for U.S. Representative Elijah E. Cummings.Roberts also worked in Legislative Affairs and Communications at the White House, where he developed external messaging for congressional offices and media. During his time in Washington, Roberts served as a mentor in the White House’s My Brother’s Keeper program as well as the College Bound Program.“To have this level of diversity and achievement in one of our leadership speakers will be inspiring for our students,” Pierce said. “His student leadership in college, work at the Obama White House and his continued career in communication in New York guarantee that everyone will get something out of his talks.”Roberts will also speak at the AU Leadership Luncheon on Friday, Feb. 2 at noon in the Jaguar Student Activities Center’s Coffeehouse.
