By Leeroy Francis |Staff writerThe Augusta University men’s basketball team returns home after a three-game road series at UNC Pembroke, North Georgia and Young Harris.The men improved to 5-4 in the Peach Belt Conference after they finished the road trip with a victory over Young Harris 71-56 on Monday, Jan. 15. This came after two narrow losses at UNC Pembroke 68-62 and at the University of North Georgia 91-84.The men seemed to turn things around at Young Harris on Monday. Senior Tamyrik Fields of Augusta led the way with 18 points and five rebounds. Deane Williams, a junior from Bristol, England, added 16 points and 11 boards. Guard Aaron Byrd, who is from Washington, D.C., also made an impact, totaling 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists.The men’s next two games are at home, versus Francis Marion today and Georgia Southwestern on Saturday. The Jags will try to improve on their 8-7 overall record against Francis Marion.Game time tonight is 7:30 at Christenberry Fieldhouse. It’s Jaguars United Night, and the university’s various colleges will be competing in a show of spirit.The Jaguar women’s basketball team, with a 1-8 in conference record and 3-10 overall record on the season, look to get back in the winner’s column after a three-loss road trip following their last home game versus Columbus State on Jan. 6. The AU Jags are currently in a seven-game losing streak since their last win Dec. 17 against this same Young Harris squad.With senior Ashleigh Outler leading the way with 18.3 points per game, 2.7 rebounds and three assists in her last three games, look for her and the rest of the women’s basketball team to be hungry for a win tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. versus Francis Marion.The Jaguars will host Georgia Southwestern on Saturday, Jan. 20, with the women starting at noon and the men at 2 p.m. It is Military Appreciation Day at Christenberry.
