By Madison Brown|Online/Design EditorThe Cinema Series at Augusta University will have two separate screenings of the independent film, 'The Florida Project,' in the Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre on Thursday, Jan. 18.Directed by Sean Baker, 'The Florida Project' is a film that is set on the highway just outside of Disney World. It showcases six-year-old Moonee (played by Brooklyn Prince) and her mother Halley (played by Bria Vinaite) as they navigate through the summer months. They live week-to-week in The Magic Castle, a hotel owned by Bobby, played by the award-winning Willem Dafoe. The film follows Moonee and her ragtag group of friends as they explore the magical world they live in, all while Halley works hard to keep their magical life from falling apart.'The Florida Project' has been heralded as a ground-breaking film that simultaneously casts a spell on its viewers, while also telling the truth about the lives of its characters. The film was a hit amongst critics, receiving the New York Film Critics Circle awards for best director awarded to Sean Baker, and best supporting actor awarded to Willem Dafoe.The film will have two showings on Thursday, at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Students of AU will get in free with their JagCard.
