La Tuna gives surprise performance to students highlighting study abroad

By Madison Brown | Staff WriterStudents outside of Allgood Hall were surprised on Friday, Oct. 6, with performances by La Tuna from Salamanca, Spain, as posted on the Augusta University Study Abroad Program’s Instagram page.The band serenaded the crowd of students with traditional Spanish music while in traditional dress.The band began their performance by playing several ballads on guitars while they all sang. One of the members played and danced while the other members of the band sang. After playing a few slower songs, they upped the ante by playing a loud folk song and got the audience to clap along. As their performance wound to an end, they chose three female members of the crowd to take part in their next song. The young women were helped into large black robes adorned with flowers and multi-colored sashes. After they were wearing the robes they were serenaded by the band with a traditional love song.Their audience along with the Spanish club, Los Amigos Hispanos, Dr. Jana Sandarg and Dr. Pedro Hoyos-Salcedo’s Spanish 1102 classes.La Tuna came from Spain to highlight the annual study abroad program that takes place during the summer of 2018 in Salamanca, Spain.https://www.instagram.com/p/BZ6PALLllN-/Contact Madison Brown at madbrown@augusta.edu
