AU men's track team wins Cougar Invitational

Staff report |Behind an outstanding performance by Jacob Poston, the Augusta University men captured the Cougar Invitational track and field meet at Smiths Station, Ala., on Feb. 22.Poston won both the 1,500- and 3,000-meter races in times of 3 minutes, 58.4 seconds. He was closely followed by teammates Chase Kennedy in second in 3:59.46 and Hunter Kimball in third place in 4:00.12. In the 3,000, Poston was first in 8:38.14. Kennedy was second in that race as well, in 8:42.84. Third place went to Jacob Burgamy in 8:45.50.The Jaguars swept the first six positions in the 1,500 and the first nine in the 3,000.Other first-place finishers for AU included Joshua Hewing in the 200 and Derrian Wright in the 800. The 4x400 relay team of Hewing, Wright, Zatrick Pearce and Xavier Allen finished third.The Jaguars rolled to 126.5 points, compared to second-place Morehouse's score of 120.75. Third went to Truett-McConnell with 118.In the women's meet, Augusta finished in a tie for third with Central State. North Georgia took first and Tuskegee second.Edrei Yates of AU took first in the long jump with a leap of 5.02 meters. Yates also finished second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.52. Teammate Priscilla Ajala finished third with a time of 12.61. Ajala also placed third in the 200 with a 26.09 time. Jaelen Alexander finished second in the 800 for the Jaguars with a time of 2:27.66. The AU women's 4x100 relay time also got second in 49.77 seconds. Runners were Erdei, Ajala, Jayla Ferris and Robyn Cummings.In the pole vault, Augusta's Regan Clegg finished second with a vault of 2.45 meters.Up next on the schedule is the Victor Ice Breaker Duals at Berry College in Rome on March 7.
