By Skylar Ackerman |ContributorAugusta University’s Gamma Psi chapter of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity will participate in the 2020 Jaguar Mania Step and Dance Competition to defend their winning title on Friday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. at Christenberry Fieldhouse.A step and dance competition involves groups choreographing dance routines, which incorporate chants, dances, steps and stomps. According to Bryson Harrison, president of Pi Kappa Phi, the fraternity won the 2019 Jaguar Mania Step and Dance Competition at AU and hopes to win for a second year in a row at the 2020 competition.“We are hungry for another win,” said Harrison.The fraternity brothers from Pi Kappa Phi, who participate in the step and dance competition, practice five days a week. Their training began in January to ensure that they will be ready for the time of the competition. “After winning last year, my chapter is bringing a lot of excitement and power,” said Harrison.According to Alex Rountree, vice president of Pi Kappa Phi, the fraternity brothers enjoy the hard work.“We have fun coming together to practice for the show,” said Rountree.According to Harrison, the step and dance show is more than just a competition for Pi Kappa Phi. It is a way to engage in student activities and promote the relevance of the fraternity in the school community.“We want to create a culture of excellence within our chapter socially, academically and in terms of participating in school traditions,” said Harrison.Fraternities, sororities and non-Greek organizations participate in the Jaguar Mania Step and Dance Competition.
