Nintendo's latest iteration to its popular fighting game franchise, Super Smash Bros., debuted on Nintendo Switch last month. As the most anticipated title on the Nintendo Switch, in the span of 11 days, Smash Ultimate sold over 3 million copies worldwide.

Featuring more than 74 characters, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate brings the best of Nintendo's worlds together with many others. Simon and Richter Belmont from Castlevania, Sonic the Hedgehog, Mega Man and Cloud from Final Fantasy VII enter the fray with the likes of Mario, Link, Ike, Kirby, Pikachu and dozens more in a fighting game fest.

We want you to read on to learn more about Smash Ultimate for Switch and your local competitive community. Interested in a tourney? Read on.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate brings in every character featured in past Smash games as well as several newcomers, such as Incineroar from Pokemon. Unlike other games, however, Smash Ultimate boasts a new physics engine to give it that competitive edge.

Featuring faster speeds and new combo mechanics, Smash Ultimate invites the most competitive players to duke it out with some of the best action ever featured in the series.

Smash Ultimate boasts beautiful HD visuals, a soundtrack featuring over 800 pieces of music, and multiplayer options for anywhere between two and eight players. Single-player mode includes the World of Light, allowing players to embark on a journey to save the world and collect Spirits.

Boasting over 70 characters, Smash Ultimate features the largest roster in the series to date. The faster-paced gameplay mechanics suit a more competitive environment while the game balance already features major improvements over the past entry for Wii U.

However, not everything is perfect in the world of Smash. For online matches, sometimes the game will flub the settings, placing players in a less-ideal match. While Nintendo patched the issue once before, it still becomes an occurrence for players to find themselves in a hazard-filled stage or fighting against more than one opponent.

That said, with Nintendo’s promise to support the game over the next year, they will assuredly continue to address technical issues and present a better experience for players.

As a longtime player of Super Smash Bros. myself I’ve never played a better title in the series than this one. Everything feels so fluid and the controls are amazing.

I mained a lower-tier character in the last game, but for those looking to try out their favorites rest assured that Smash Ultimate is much better balanced than past titles and you’ll certainly find your favorites in and out of competitive play.

Smash Bros. is no stranger to a good party experience. Fight it out among friends featuring over 100 stages and dozens of items. However, if you're looking for a more competitive experience, then we have the answer for you.

Augusta has its own Smash scene. Starting in 2014, with the release of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, the scene has traveled to several venues. As one of the event coordinators and a competitor myself, Augusta features a number of passionate, competitive players who enter tournaments regularly.

"I think Augusta Smash is on the comeback after a brief lapse in attendance and with the launch of a new game regenerating interest I’m really excited for the future of smash in Augusta," said Alex Hurley a local Smash Bro. competitor.

The new home for Smash Ultimate in Augusta, however, belongs to XP Gaming Lounge. Located on Washington Road, past the Evans Walmart, you'll find a shopping center past the Ace Hardware store. Come to XP Gaming Lounge during one of the monthly events and show what you've got to the scene.

"XP Gaming and Augusta Smash as a whole are a great place to get involved in a gaming community. For example, it's helped me make friends and get more passionate about something I love, but also within a friendly and encouraging environment," said Zachary Mereau.

"The Augusta smash scene has allowed me to be more social, make plenty of new friends, and enjoy and get better at something I love with other like-minded individuals," said Rafael Cumbermack

XP Gaming is located at 4536 Washington Road. Augusta Smash will host its next event on March 23 at 2 p.m. The tournament will feature both 1-v-1 and 2-v-2 competition.

So come out to XP and play the greatest Smash experience with the local CSRA scene. Check out the Events page below:
